This Bedford, NH living room had good bones: a fireplace, tall ceilings, arched windows, and a dated brick surround that dragged the whole room backward. Oak Hill rebuilt the fireplace from the hearth up, extending the surround to the ceiling with new millwork and a new stone hearth so the fire anchors the room instead of hiding in it. Built-in benches and cabinets in custom Oak Hill cabinetry flank the fireplace on both sides, adding seating and storage that read as part of the architecture. A new light fixture, fresh paint, and refinished floors reset the palette, and new furniture chosen for the room’s new character finished it.
